What to know before you travel
Getting here
Fly into San Diego International Airport (SAN). Our driver meets you there and takes you across the border; the hospital district is about 25 minutes away.
If you live in Southern California you can also drive or be dropped off at the San Ysidro crossing; tell your coordinator and we will arrange the pickup.
What to bring
Your passport or passport card to re-enter the United States, a list of your medications, comfortable loose clothing and any previous studies or operative reports.
Bring a companion if you can. Ask your coordinator about the companion's stay.
Why Tijuana
Tijuana's Zona Río is the city's medical district: hospitals, hotels and restaurants within a few blocks, minutes from the border.
Bariatric surgery typically costs a fraction of the US self-pay price, and it can be scheduled in weeks instead of the months an insurance approval may take.
Follow-up from home
You leave with written instructions, your diet by stages and a direct line for questions. Nutrition and surgical follow-up continue by video call.
We give you an operative summary in English for your primary care doctor, who can order the routine lab work during the first year.
Border wait times change daily. Airfare is not included in any package. Deposit and cancellation terms are given to you in writing before you pay.

A hospital, not a clinic
Surgery takes place at Blue Tower Hospital, on Vía Oriente in Tijuana's Zona Río, the medical district closest to the border.
- Operating rooms equipped for laparoscopic surgery
- Certified intensive care units
- Laboratory, radiology and fluoroscopy on site
- Private rooms with a sofa bed for your companion, Wi-Fi and TV
- Pharmacy and cafeteria in the building
- Safe area near hotels and restaurants

Next door to San Diego, without the US price tag
Tijuana sits right across the border from San Diego, California. Its hospitals and hotels are concentrated in Zona Río, minutes from the crossing, with restaurants and services within a few blocks.
- About 25 minutes from San Diego airport
- Private door-to-door transportation
- Hotel minutes from the hospital
- A bilingual team from start to finish
